We’ve loved our month long stay at Casa Dorado and are sad to leave. We enjoyed being in such tranquil surroundings but able to dip in and out of the busy activity of nearby Santa Teresa.
The house is well equipped with plenty of space. The 2 main bedrooms are fabulous!
We especially enjoyed using the pool and going on daily beach walks each day. I set my yoga mat up on the upstairs terrace and enjoyed the visiting wildlife whilst stretching. A perfect place to relax and unwind and we’d love to return again.
Many thanks!

Wow what a spot! Can't say enough nice things about Joe and his beautiful AirBnB! We had such a great time during our week in paradise. The location is so peaceful and relaxing and monkeys right outside our place. We love that you're in a quiet jungle escape but in a 5 minute care ride in the bustle of Santa Teresa! Joe's Tuesday pizza night is not to be missed under the tiki by the pool btw! If you like to fish and surf this is such a prime location. Joe's boat is literally across the street from his place and he is a great captain that really knows the area. We hired him for a half day charter to go see if we could find catch some yellow tail tuna. We did catch a few black tuna but we missed the yellowtail bite but everyone agreed it was just an amazing day to be on the water. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous from the beach out in front. We loved the quick walk to Delzie Italian Bakery & Kitchen to grab a slice of pizza and the quick mart! We can't wait to visit again soon!

My husband and I recently stayed at Joe's place in Malpais, and I can't say enough good things about it! Joe the host, was fantastic and made us feel right at home. The ranchero was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook our fresh caught fish from a local charter. It was a special treat to enjoy Joe's culinary skills that showcased the local flavors while sharing good stories and laughter in the company of his friends and other guests.
The tropical landscaping and pool area are absolutely stunning and even more so at night. One of the best surprises was the two adorable dogs and a cat who added so much charm to our stay. They loved to hang out with us and greet us every day.
The location couldn't have been better with the evening sounds of the ocean waves, morning wake up calls from the howlers and the occasional balcony visits of the local white faced monkeys. If you're looking for a cozy place in a beautiful area, I highly recommend this spot! We WILL be back!!!

We stayed at Joe’s Playa de Pesca Resort for a month (July–August 2025), and it was amazing. The location is perfect — between a national park and the ocean, just far enough from the noise of Santa Teresa, but only 5 minutes away if you want to go. Everything is within walking distance: soccer field, beach sunsets, a small grocery store, and the fish market. Surf spots are just 5–7 minutes away. We went fishing with Joe twice — unforgettable! We saw dolphins, turtles, whales, and caught so many delicious fish. On the property, you’ll spot geckos, lizards, crabs, monkeys, butterflies, and many birds. If nature’s not your thing, you can always go to Miami 😉 To explore the Nicoya Peninsula, this is truly the place to be. As the Terminator said: “I’ll be back.”

Wonderful spot - the pictures really don't do the place justice.
Easy walk to the beach, the marina, the grocery store and brewery.
The landscaping is lush and attracts plenty of local wildfire - butterflies, birds, capybatas, and coatis - we even saw a howler monkey on our last evening there!
The pool and outdoor kitchen area are great for large and small groups.
Overall a great experience - we will be back!

I had a feeling that this was going to be a good stay by how responsive Joe was before we even got there. But nothing could have prepared me for the experience I had. The grounds are immaculate, the dwellings are exactly what you see in the pictures, and the host was amazing. My family spent a month at the property and we really felt like it was our new home. We were able to set up a fishing trip with Joe and caught more tuna than I thought was possible in a few hours. It was an amazing experience. Not only was Joe amazing as a host, I truly feel I gained a good friend in Costa Rica. We cannot recommend Playa de Pesca enough. We will return for years to come.

Hidden at the end of the road you can walk and get fresh fish from the fishing dock. Walk to some hidden beaches, relax by the community pool (All owned and maintained by the owne), meet other guests. Just chill. Just BBQ. Just relax. Your choice.

Mal Pais is a laid back beach town that is perfect for a family getaway. I took my kids, 4 and 7 for a month and we found a beautiful place and respite from our over scheduled lives. We flew from San Jose to Cobano and took a taxi to Joe’s place. I didn’t get a car and didn’t need it. We were across the street from a fish market and the beach. The neighbors are a nature reserve and a zip lining tour operator. There was a small grocery store that we walked to almost everyday and a tiny restaurant right next to that. We could have spent everyday in the pool (my kids learned to swim here) but we also tried the beaches and river nearby. The property is so beautiful and well maintained. If you’re lucky Joe will make pizza! Everyday was an adventure marveling at nature even without tours (horseback riding, surfing, fishing tours, etc). We were often the only people on the beaches. Santa Teresa is 3 miles away and has great restaurants. If you want a quiet paradise to rejuvenate- it’s here.

We stayed for one 1 month at Joe's place and what can I say, it was awesome. Joe himself is very kind, responsive and super chilled. He even made food for us and invited us to hang out with his friends and come to party. The hospitality was incredible. The place itself was beautiful. It is the middle of the jungle, surrounded by fruit trees, palm trees and cool animals. Very private as well. In the middle is a pool and a community place where people come together and hang out. I loved the kitchen at our house, the big fridge, the balcony and everything else. I also had a special request about synthetic fragrances where Joe made sure they avoid it before I come and I’m really thankful for that. The beach is right in front of the house, a little grocery store 5min walk and Santa Teresa is like 5min by car. The people in Costa Rica are also very friendly and kind. I can highly recommend staying at Joe's place. Thank you Joe!!

We loved staying at Casa Wahoo. Quiet little corner away from the hustle and bustle of Santa Teresa, yet easy to get to various surf breaks and town. The place was very clean and felt new/nice. Only 2 of the 3 bedrooms had AC, so we just shared 2 rooms. AC in the main area and the 2 rooms worked great.
